Water Day - September 30, 2003

9:15 am Okeechobee's Jaycee Park. We had the best view of Lake Okeechobee in South Florida. We will be greeted by Dr. Mitch Flinchum from UF/IFAS and Bonnie Wolff from FDACS Office of Agricultural Water Policy. They gave a short history of the Lake and how it is connected to our South Florida water systems.
10 am - drive to Okeechobee County Extension Office for presentations:
12:30 pm - Lunch - Genuine Fried Catfish and Alligator supper prepared by Chefs Ollie And Pat Hogue. Menu included baked beans, homemade pecan and Key Lime pie (Thanks to Yu Kudo and Carol!) and tea. And - thanks to our servers - Bonnie, Mitch, and Okeechobee Extension office's Jackie Joyce & Becce Eaves.
1:30 pm - Irrigation Evaluation Basics - Elwood Holzworth, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, Vero Beach.
2pm - The rest of the story: Agriculture and the Lake Okeechobee restoration - Pat & Pat.
2:30 pm Demonstration of Irrigation Evaluation @ Okeechobee County Library
3:45 pm dismissal - safe trip home!
Directions to Park: From Martin county: CR 710 (Beeline Highway north towards Okeechobee. Take left on to CR 15B east until it dead-ends into US 98/441 North. Turn Right (north). At traffic light, 98/441 turns right (north) towards Okeechobee - Continue straight ahead (west) on SR 78. 100 feet past traffic light turn left into ramp/drive. [There is a large yellow sign for airboat rides, and a small sign for Jaycee Park.] Drive up ramp, you will see the Lake, and drive down to park in lot. We will meet you on the fishing pier. Directions to Office: From Jaycee Park, go North on 98/441, in downtown Okeechobee turn left on US 98 at Park Avenue light, then right on 98 when it turns north at the Hess Station. go to our county website.
