Kudos to

O. Pat Miller

On July 15, 2004, Okeechobee's County Extension Director joined a group of 6417 County Agricultural Extension agents who have been honored over the past 67 years with the National Association of County Agricultural Agents Distinguished Service Award.  Pat was one of three Florida Agents so honored at the 2004 Annual Meeting & Professional Improvement Conference, hosted this year by the Florida association of County Agricultural agents in Orlando, Florida.

Present at the DSA Banquet was his wife, Susie (left),  and his long-time friend and colleague from Indiana, Val Slack  (right), who happens to be the CED in Whitley County, Indiana.  Val was also  honored  at the conference, being one of the two DSA winners from Indiana.

Pat was also responsible for organizing a national dairy tour for conference visitors that brought a busload for agents and their families to Okeechobee County.  Our very own Okeechobee County Udder Bunch 4-H Club prepared lunch for three separate tours, (right)  using the generous contributions of the following groups and organizations that underwrote the costs of this meal:   ABS Global, Diamond R Fertilizer, Farm Credit of South Florida, Lakeland Animal Nutrition, Okeechobee County Farm Bureau, and Syfrett Feed.

And, during much of the rest of the 2004 AMPIC Conference, he was in charge of coordinating the computer and projection needs for the hundreds of meetings and seminars that were held through the week.

As evidence of the high esteem that his co-workers hold for Mr. Miller, here is a quote from Pat Hogue, Okeechobee's Livestock Agent and Co-chair of the 2004 AMPIC Conference: " The majority of the last four years, I have been a member of the Okeechobee County Extension Faculty, and so my second group that I must give my sincerest thanks to is them.  A better total county faculty team than Pat Miller, Debbie Clements and Dan Culbert has never in my estimation been assembled and could not make going to work each day a more pleasant experience. They have made my life over the last few years a pleasure to work through, have given me tremendous support not only personally, but taking on major responsibilities of this conference themselves. Without their tremendous support, guidance and comradery, my sanity over the last few years may have come in to question. "

Thanks for your hard work at the 2004 NACAA AMPIC,  Pat Miller,  and congratulations from your staff!
