Florida Friendly Landscaping Program Aimed at Reducing Water Pollution in Okeechobee Region

Angela Sachson has been appointed by the University of Florida to conduct the Florida Yards & Neighborhoods (FYN) program in the Okeechobee region.  She will be helping Extension offices in Okeechobee, Highlands and Glades counties.

The Okeechobee region faces a growing number of problems regarding lake and ground water quality. The FYN program will provide information to teach people about the importance of natural resource protection through responsible landscaping.

FYN programs are available to homeowners, garden center personnel and landscape professionals. Individuals, business and government agencies can participate in the “Florida Friendly” yard designation program.

Ms. Sachson looks forward to addressing interested groups such as homeowners associations, neighborhood associations, service organizations and clubs.  For further information she can be reached by calling the Okeechobee County Extension Service office.  Phone: (863) 763-6469 or email: asachson@ufl.edu .  The Okeechobee Extension location is 458 Highway 98 in Okeechobee.
