OKEECHOBEE COUNTY  4-H NEWSLETTER

September 2006

 Dear 4-H Family,

It’s a new beginning…A new 4-H year with new and exciting opportunities for you to take advantage of.  I am looking forward to a great 4-H program with each of you.

We will continue our existing clubs (Bacon Bunch, Barnyard Buddies, Beef and Bacon Raisers, Bits and Spurs, Chobee Cattle Kids, Chobee Crackers, Chobee Roundup, County Council/Junior Leaders, Places to Go, Sharp Shooters, Spurs and Saddles, Steaks and Chops, Swine Time, Photography and Cooking Club, Udder Bunch, and the Wild Bunch) and we will be having a new rabbit and swine club.  Watch for more information on a Junior Master Gardener Club.

The awards banquet was a tremendous success.  Congratulations to all of the many award winners.  Thank you to all who helped plan, set up, cook, clean up and present.  The banquet could not happen without your help.  The record books and awards that were not picked up at the banquet are available at the Extension Office.  Please pick up your record books and awards. The record books will come in handy when you begin working on next year’s project.   Thank you all for your generous gifts to me. I will enjoy them a great deal.  Most of all thank you for being such great kids and parents.

Now is the time to sign up for 4-H again.  Even if you were a member last year, you must fill out a new enrollment form.  If you plan to participate in the Okeechobee Youth Livestock Show you must be enrolled before your project deadline or October 31, whichever comes first and attend your club’s October meeting.  The enrollment deadline is September 8, 5:00pm if you are showing a steer.  The date for steer weigh-in is September 9, 8:00-10:00am and you may not enroll at weigh-in.  Enrollment forms must be completed and on file in the Extension Office before September 9 – no later than 5:00pm on September 8.  There will be no exceptions!  You can pick up your enrollment forms, complete them and return them to the Extension Office or if your first meeting is before the enrollment deadline, you may turn it in to your 4-H Leader.  All dues and insurance money are due at the time you turn in your forms.  (Insurance is $1.00 per person or $2.00 per horse person).  Forms will NOT be accepted without fees.  Age guidelines and code of conduct must be followed.  There are new 4-H age guidelines this year. Please see the flyer inside the newsletter. Make sure you have a copy of the Okeechobee Youth Livestock Rules for the 2006-2007 4-H year.  There are some changes.

Everything you do is an advertisement for 4-H… Make sure the message that you send is the right one.  Make the best better!

Sincerely,

DEBBIE S.CLEMENTS
